Karen has provided legal services to community banks throughout Texas and beyond for over 30 years. In addition to serving as General Counsel for the Independent Bankers Association of Texas, she is an advisory director for the Texas Association of Bank Counsel. Routinely, Karen advises banks on regulatory compliance, examination preparation, policies and procedures and has special expertise in Bank Secrecy Act, fair lending and consumer compliance matters.

Recognized through out  the financial institution community, Karen has advocated for community banks under the pink dome of the Texas Capitol to the halls of Washington, DC. She has consistently provided testimony, drafted legislative language, and campaigned for issues critical to banks and financial institutions.


Representative Experience

  • Counsel financial institution clients on regulatory compliance matters including Bank Secrecy Act, consumer compliance, and an array of lending and operation functions
  • Counsel a Texas banking trade association as general counsel including government relations functions
  • Counsel financial institution clients on strategic planning, director & officer compliance, vendor management, and other various topics
  • Represent banks in fair lending complaints, including implementing compliant systems and procedures
  • Represent financial services company with multi-state operations through innovative online system
  • Provide testimony in litigation involving banking issues such as Texas usury law, fair lending issues, and check clearing processes.
